Warning on internet fraud

GWENT Police are warning people to be vigilant when buying goods online following three reports of fraud relating to vehicles that have been advertised for sale on the internet.

The first incident relates to a person responding to an internet ad for a mobile home.

The seller promised to deliver the vehicle after receiving a bankers draft for £6,300.

The money was transferred but the mobile home was never delivered.

The second involved the sale of an Audi A4 TDI. The buyer paid £7,000 but the car was never delivered.

Similarly the third was for a £3,500 VW Golf GTI, which was never delivered after payment was made.

In each of the cases the seller asked for the money to be transferred to bank accounts abroad, in Spain or Italy.

Police officers are raising awareness of this type of incidents and warning people to be extremely vigilant when carrying out transactions online.

Advice included always checking that the person you are buying from is genuine and where possible, if you are parting with a significant amount of money, always make an effort to see the goods beforehand.
